Umbel, a new dance film by Two Trains, examines the interplay between shadow, light, and the body within space. Movement and music works with shadow as a means to multiply images — as if reflecting on the past, imagining the future; a kind of duality — and as the title suggests — emanating from a common, ghost-like point.

Set in the Confederate South as the American Civil War rages, a young ladies school has been sheltered from the outside world. Until a wounded Union soldier is discovered by one of the young girls. Taken in to convalesce, the soldier is pulled into the jealousies and rivalries within the schoolhouse. Danger ensues…
